This week I want to shine a light on Jelly Cleaver. She is a guitarist, activist, producer and singer-songwriter based in South London. I had the pleasure of connecting with her at a Moor Mother listening party and she had such a friendly and open vibe.
I have been meditating on Cosmovisions in the mornings recently. Think Erykah Badu X contemporary jazz X 2020 Thundercat. Its smooth jazz vibe delicate interweaving instrument textures creates the perfect mood to set up a calm and focussed day.
The Mirrors (edit) is an anthem that will move you from nodding along to head-banging by the end. The tenor saxophone lines from Morgan Wallace are driven by a more psychedelic confrontational beat with a glitchy trap beat, garage style drums and ethereal vocals. The genre-bending musical weaving here – POWERFUL.
