Cata Rivera- Artist Spotlight

By Jess Woodward

in collaboration with Burgess Sports founded in 2011, Cata has created a photographic series called ‘Beyond The Game’ documenting Aylesbury’s youth.

‘Beyond The Game looks towards the community within Burgess Sports and the Aylesbury Estate. The Aylesbury Estate is notorious in the media as one of Europe’s largest housing complexes and in 1997 became stigmatised as “hells waiting room” after Tony Blair’s visit.’

The series ‘transcends media tropes of the community and highlights the power of community engagement and the tranformative impact of sports on young people.’

Cata writes about how the charity has ‘acted as a beacon of hope and empowerment for the Aylesbury community, providing quality multisport activities, family workshops and a food programme.’

In 2021, the charity decided to open Clubhouse Cafe, Burgess Park, to help fund projects. Due to its success, Clubhouse Cafe 2 opened in London Bridge just 2 years later.

Cata’s mum, who is CEO of Burgess Sports, has facilitated both of these cafes with 100% of profits contributing to Burgess Sports and the Aylesbury community. Go check it out and see Cata’s beautiful photos in the Clubhouse cafe 2!
