IDONTWANNAMESSTHISUP reading list

I’ve curated a list of books from female authors. All of these books have either inspired me, made me feel something or made me realise something, basically I think everyone should read them!

By Thea Martynska

Feminism Interrupted- Lola Olufemi

Probably the best non- fiction book I’ve ever read! It moves the narrative away from mainstream feminism and discusses issues which are usually hidden from the spotlight. This book changed the way I think about feminism.

My Brilliant Friend- Elena Ferrante

This book is the first of a 4 part series and might just be the most emotional series you’ll ever read. it comments on girlhood and how friendships are such an important part of that growth, and most importantly what happens to those friendships when you grow up. set in Naples it touches on almost every element of life, in a vibrant and beautiful backdrop.

Ordinary People- Diana Evans

Set in crystal palace Ordinary people is a comment on South London and trying to live and love amidst challenges. It’s written so well and made me cry which rarely ever happens!

Heartburn- Nora Ephron

One of my favourite books ever! This book is fucking hilarious. It’s about a woman who finds out her husband is cheating on her, heart-wrenching and funny, what more could you ask for?

The Terrible- Yrsa Daley-Ward

Her life story is gripping and so is this book from start to finish. I couldn’t beleive I’d never read anything of hers before reading this book. A story of a life that includes lots of terrible bits and will make you feel deeply.

Their Eyes Were Watching God – Zora Neale Hurston

The latest book I read and not one I’ll be forgetting anytime soon. It follows the life of Janie and her three marriages, but mainly her path to finding out who she is and her self worth.
