Hi everyone, I’m back again this week to spotlight the singer-songwriter Ellie Nanni!
Ellie is a London-based singer, bringing us nuanced and heart-felt lyrics in a lilting folk-style vocal.
Her most recent track “Houseplants” is for definitely for a cosy vibe or those moments on the bus where you just wish you were in another world. It’s the perfect balance of gentle guitar chords and gently layered melodies will bring you into the slow-moving reflective world of her music. She has one of those voices that you find truly comforting, telling modern fables, revealing the beauty in life’s many stories.
Her song “Toy (Thinking of You)” is a subtle blend of elements across genres into a candid story of relationship triggered self-reflection. Ellie gives us a gentle bossa nova type groove to start. She matches this with a stream of consciousness in lyrical interjections that move with an anxious, whispered urgency. It’s a really endearing story told through Samba, folk, a soft rock-style drum beat and jazz-inspired adlibs.
Check out a lot of her unreleased music on her Instagram @ellienannimusic where we hear the real versatility of her voice in covers and originals. Funny, vulnerable, and dream-like, the simplicity of just her and the guitar showcases the range of her craft.
We hear the sad-girl aesthetic of Lana Del Rey with a flightier vocal and the steady guitar chords you might expect from an early Joy Crookes demo.
Check out her more of her work on her Soundcloud @ellie nanni and Spotify and stay updated with her song writing and covers on her Instagram @ellienannimusic
I look forward to bringing you more music in the lead up to Christmas and check out what I’m listening to on our Weekly Picks Spotify Playlist!
Lots of love – until next time <3
